A cymbal—the musical instrument—is stimulated by acoustic energy to activate its natural vibrational patterns. The instrument vibrates without being touched. Thus, its oscillations become audible in the space and visible on both its surface and its projected shadow on the wall. It sings and dances.
As a duet, the cymbal and its shadow perform a counterpoint-like composition that intertwines the audible and visual manifestations of the instrument’s intrinsic vibrations. These two interdependent yet independent parts execute a microscopic exploration of a tiny fraction of the instrument’s broad resonant spectrum.
