Orchestra, 1997

Duration: twelve minutes

Sudden changes and extreme behaviors characterize the strong, radical and unstable emotionality pervading Iar. This materializes through the use of the symphony orchestra’s full potential, especially through textural variety, density and coloristic transformation. The orchestral mass grows, shrinks, attacks, and strongly fluctuates from solo to tutti, and from unison to multiple orchestral divisi, in one single movement. When this lack of stability emerges locally (in solos and chamber groups), intricate polyphonies arise, supporting the complexity of the work.
